Privacy Policy

Garbeau ("the App") is a waste collection schedule app for municipalities in Quebec, Canada. This policy describes what data the App collects, how it is used, and your choices.

1. Information We Collect

Location Data

• The App may request access to your device GPS to help identify your municipality and collection zone.
• Location coordinates are stored only on your device and are never transmitted to any server.
• Location access is optional. You can deny permission and select your city and zone manually.

App Preferences

• Your selected city, zone, language preference, and notification settings are stored locally on your device using standard device storage.
• This data is never transmitted to any server, except as described in the Notifications section below.

Push Notification Tokens

• If you enable collection reminders, the App registers a push notification token with Expo push service and transmits this token to our backend (Supabase) along with your selected city, zone, reminder hours, muted waste types, and language preference.
• This information is used solely to send you collection-day reminders at your chosen times.
• The push token does not reveal your identity, name, email, or precise location.
• You can disable reminders at any time in the App settings. Doing so deletes your push token from our backend.

Crash Reports

• If the App encounters an error in production, anonymous crash data (error message, stack trace, app version) may be sent to Sentry, a third-party error monitoring service.
• Crash reports do not contain your location, city selection, personal information, or any data that can identify you.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

The App does not:

• Require or support user accounts, logins, or registration
• Collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or other personal identifiers
• Share or sell any data to third parties

3. Advertising

• The App displays banner advertisements served by Google AdMob.
• AdMob may use the device advertising identifier to serve relevant ads and measure performance. No personal information (name, email, location) is shared with advertisers.
• You can control ad personalization through your device privacy settings (Settings > Privacy > Ads on iOS; Settings > Google > Ads on Android).

4. Donations

• The App offers optional donation purchases through RevenueCat, a third-party payment platform.
• Donation transactions are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Garbeau does not collect or store your payment information.
• RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID to manage your donation state. This ID is not linked to your identity.

5. Notifications

• The App can send you reminders for upcoming collection days.
• Reminders are delivered via remote push notifications using Expo push notification service. Your push token and selected notification preferences (city, zone, reminder hours, muted waste types, language) are stored on our backend (Supabase) to schedule these reminders.
• You can enable or disable notifications at any time in the App settings. Disabling notifications removes your push token from our backend.

6. Schedule Data

• Collection schedules are bundled with the App. For select municipalities, the App may fetch updated schedule data from a public GitHub repository.
• These requests are anonymous and do not transmit any user data.

7. Issue Reporting

• The App includes a feature to report incorrect collection dates. This opens your device email client with a pre-filled message.
• You are in full control of whether to send the email and what information it contains.

8. Data Storage and Security

• All user preferences and cached data are stored locally on your device.
• Push notification tokens and associated preferences are stored on our backend (Supabase) and are deleted when you disable notifications.
• You can clear all locally stored data at any time using the "Reset All Data" option in Settings, or by uninstalling the App.

9. Children Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

10. Changes to This Policy

If this policy is updated, the revised version will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date.
